The body of 29-year-old Punjabi singer and make-up artist Inder Kaur, popularly known as Yashinder Kaur, has been recovered from the Neelo canal in Punjab. This confirmation comes nearly a week after she was reported missing following an alleged abduction in Ludhiana. The discovery of her mortal remains on the morning of May 19 has prompted a police investigation into what the family alleges was a ‘murder’ motivated by a rejected marriage proposal.
Who was Yashinder Kaur?
According to a News 18 report, born in 1997, Inder Kaur was a Punjab-based singer and makeup artist with a growing footprint in the Punjabi music industry. She released multiple tracks over the years, including ‘Afghan Jatti’, ‘Sohna Lagda’, ‘Laanedaarni’, ‘Desi Sirre De’, ‘Sone Di Wang’, ‘Kisaan Anthem’, ‘Jija’, ‘Rich Standard’, ‘Aakad’, and ‘Kado Ti Milegi’, among others. Her live performances and social media presence had earned her a regional following of over 124,000 on Instagram at the time of her death.

As per the report, Inder Kaur had been missing since May 13, according to PTC Punjab. Her body was recovered at around 11 am on Tuesday, May 19, from the Neelo canal. Her family identified the body at the site. Authorities subsequently sent the remains to the Civil Hospital in Samrala for a postmortem examination and completion of legal procedures.The singer’s brother, Jotinder Singh, filed a police complaint about her disappearance, leading to the registration of an FIR on May 15 against Moga-based Sukhwinder Singh, alias Sukha, and his associate Karamjit Singh. According to the complaint, Inder Kaur had stepped out on the evening of May 13 to buy groceries in her Ford Figo car and never returned. Repeated calls went unanswered, prompting the family to search for her before approaching the police.The family alleged that Sukhwinder Singh, a resident of Bhalur village in Moga district, had sought to marry Inder Kaur, but she had turned down the proposal. They claim she was abducted at gunpoint and subsequently killed over this personal animosity. According to an ABP report, the complainant alleged that the prime accused had previously escaped to Canada and had returned to Punjab only shortly before the incident.Police have confirmed the investigation is ongoing and that further legal action will follow based on the outcome of the probe.
