History of Basketball and Few facts about the Game

In 1891, Dr. James Naismith, a physical education professor at Springfield College [earlier identified as International Young Men’s Christian Association Training School (YMCA)] was always trying to keep their students fit and energetic. In 1892, Frank Mahan, one of the players suggested to Naismith the game name as ” Basketball ” because its primary target is basket and by using the ball. Within a concise period, the basketball game becomes very famous in the United States as well as Canada. In early days Basket Ball was played by using Football, many changes took place, and Basket Ball got its name shape and size.

Associations:

By 1901, Many Universities started sponsoring the game and associations were formed such as National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) which was Intercollegiate Athletic Association of the United States (IAAUS). National Basketball Association (NBA) was formed by merging the National Basketball Association (NBA) and National Basketball League (NBL).

On February 6, 1904, The first Canadian interuniversity basketball match was played at the YMCA in Kingston, Ontario, when McGill University visited Queen’s University.
During the 1920s the game was officially popular, and professional basketball teams in towns and cities all over the United States were formed. FIBA (International Basketball Federation) was created in 1932 by eight founding nations at the time: Argentina, Czechoslovakia, Romania, Greece, Italy, Latvia, Portugal, and Switzerland. Now the game is being played all over the world.
