Assam offers home loan subsidy of up to Rs 2.5 lakh: Eligibility & benefits explained

The Assam government has a scheme to provide subsidies of up to Rs 2.5 lakh on housing loans under its ‘Aponar Apon Ghar’ scheme, to make home ownership more affordable. The initiative is aimed at helping middle and lower-income families buy their first home by reducing the cost of borrowing.Under the scheme, permanent residents of Assam can receive financial assistance ranging from Rs one lakh to Rs 2.5 lakh, depending on the loan amount.A subsidy of Rs one lakh is given on loan amounts between Rs 5-10 lakh, Rs 1.5 lakh on loans between Rs 10-20 lakh, Rs 2 lakh for a range of Rs 20-30 lakhs, while loans between Rs 30 lakh and Rs 40 lakh qualify for this maximum subsidy of Rs 2.5 lakh.

Eligibility:

· You must be a permanent resident of Assam state.· You must avail the housing loan from any Scheduled Commercial Bank, Regional Rural Banks, or Assam Cooperative Apex Bank within the state.· Your total family income must not exceed Rs 20 lakh.· The housing loan must be of more than Rs 5,00,000· Your loan amount must be sanctioned by the bank on or after April one, 2019.· Your loan accounts must not be under Non-Performing Assets (NPA) status.· Neither you nor any immediate family member should already own a house.Individuals who have already availed benefits under the earlier Apun Ghar Scheme are not eligible for the scheme.

Documents required

The documents required for the application are an Income certificate, Identity proof, residence proof of Assam, and proof of land ownership.Financial documents include bank account details, latest salary slips, statement of the salary account for the past six months, service proof of minimum five years, statement of personal assets and liabilities, and passport-size photographs.

Application process

Applications are accepted only through an online process. Applicants must visit the official website and navigate to the ‘Click here for Loan Subsidy’ section. Click on the scheme, fill in the required details, and save.To check the application status, click ‘track’ on the ‘Application Tracking’ system, at the bottom of the home page, and submit your mobile number, and loan account or application number.According to the Assam government, the scheme is intended to advance the vision of ‘Housing for All’ by making home ownership more accessible through subsidised housing finance.
